Getting back to basics is something all parents should contemplate. What exactly is meant by getting back to the basics?
Simply put, it means bringing back the special family time that is lacking in many families today. Unfortunately we live in a rush-rush society and it is affecting our family life. Little time is spent communicating with our children and instilling the ever most important morals and values that will prepare them for adulthood.
Getting back to basics is simple yet, it is a commitment that all parents should be willing to accept. You can start by making time in your busy schedules for genuine family time. It can be as simple as cooking together or reading together. Let’s take it a step further and incorporate health and wellness and exercise together. Go outside and run around with your children, remember those times from your childhood? I recall my parents calling out to us kids to come inside and even threatening on locking us out if we didn’t get back in time for dinner. Today our children don’t go outside much but you can bring those times back. Go outside and play catch, relay races and simple hop-scotch..great exercise for both you and your family.
Incorporate a family night into your weekly routine. Shut down all the distracting electronics and play board games or perhaps work on a puzzle. You’d be amazed at how quickly your family will adapt to these positive changes and look forward to family time. Try it today, get back to the basics with your family.
